“It’s OK Santa, we’ve got this!”

We all know that Santa’s a popular man!
So our job as a parent’s to help where we can.

There’s only so much he can fit in that sack.
“But don’t worry Santa, we’ve all got your back!”

We know that he’ll manage a present or two,
But we’re always quite happy to buy a few too…

So for hours and hours we trawl through the shops.
Dishing out raisins to quiet the tots.

Our toddlers runs frantically straight to the elves…
Skittling snowmen from each of their shelves.

We wrestle the pushchair and force a fake laugh.
While numpties decide to stop right in our path!

(Grumpy face!!)

We laugh as we casually fritter our wages.
(Spent in a flash but the earning took ages!?)

And if buying the presents was not hard enough?
Wrapping the buggers is certainly tough!

We wrestle with paper and ribbon and string,
To find that a “boddler” has kindly crawled in.

Who sits there quite happily there in the wrap,
While we secretly plot out a sellotape trap….

….Which we figure just might be a tad frowned upon?
So we patiently wait for our tots to move on.

With our mission complete we sit back and reflect.
Our bounty of gifts so thought out and perfect.

And Santa must notice and nod with a smirk.
(This present malarkey is flipping hard work!)

But then after all of the shopping and wrappage.
Our tots rip it open….

…. and play with the package.

So the moral of this if we’re buying for tots.
Is to save all the stress and just buy them a box!!

Happy Christmas shopping to you all.

Dawn x

    1. Isn’t it just? The stuff that you’ve been so excited to give them just gets flung to one side. I might wait until they’re 17 and just give them an empty cardboard box one year. See how they like it then haha. Thanks lovely x

  1. Funny and so true! Our one year old would certainly be just as happy with a box as anything else, but I’m sure there’ll be plenty of photos since it’s his first proper Christmas, so we’d better buy him a proper present.

  3. Tee hee! This experience is (unfortunately) so familiar to me. They do grow out of the attachment to the wrapping as they get older but, having said that, my older two at 8 and 6 still raid the recycling to build ‘inventions’ so perhaps packaging IS all they need regardless of what they write on their christmas list. xx

    1. Thank you hon. It’s all just a futile exercise? I can’t imagine not wrapping them though. It would be wrong… *soldiers on* Next year they’re all getting ordered from Amazon. Gift wrapped! ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

  4. I love most things about christmas, but not wrapping presents. I look at other peoples beautifully wrapped presents with smooth sleek paper, ribbons and bows, and then at mine that look like something a two year old has done……
great rhyme as always xx #marvmondays
