Thanks for reading….
….It is twenty to six on a dark winter morning.
We’re all snuggled warm in our beds softly snoring.
But then, through the silence is heard a small cough.
A whimper, a wriggle, a whinge… and we’re off!
The day has commenced as I rise from my bed,
Dragging my feet in a state of “half dead”.
I shuffle across and reach into the cot,
Lifting my now somewhat screeching young tot.
A hug and a kiss, check his nappy for poo,
Then he’s plonked on our bed for a spot of “Me Too”.
Teeth brushed and shower all done in a dash.
Perhaps do my hair if feel a bit flash?
By this time Miss Tot has appeared by his side,
Sleepy and grumpy and quite bleary eyed.
I make all the beds and I tidy their wares,
Scoop up the tots and we venture downstairs.
There’s warm milk and breakfast and washing to do,
Then hose down the kitchen and both offspring too.
I wrestle each tot into vaguely clean clothes.
Chase them in circles to wipe each one’s nose.
With all of my might get them strapped in the car,
and nip one to preschool – it’s not very far,
But I rush in the gates and I’m really impressed…
As my youngest appears to be somehow half dressed?
I drag on his socks and his footwear once more,
Then shovel the biggest Tot in through the door.
With one off to school it’s now on with our day,
Back in the car to The Boy’s “Stay and Play”.
There’s sand pit and water activities planned,
But The Boy will not play without holding my hand.
I lift and I carry, I jiggle and play,
And soon it is home time, so on with our day…
Next it is lunch, and a beautiful feast
Is prepared, but declined by my awkward young beast.
So I clear it away for an hour, and then,
I warm it all up and present it again.
At some time between there just might be a nap.
At which point I gallop about in a flap,
With so many meaningless tasks still to do,
Cleaning and housework and ironing too.
I’m quite overwhelmed with the mission at hand,
So I end up instead doing nothing I’d planned.
I somehow just seem to end up by mistake,
Stood in the kitchen and snacking on cake??
But soon it is time and we’re back in the car,
To pick up Miss Tot, which is not very far.
We shortly arrive, park the car up and then…
Somehow The Boy is half naked again!?
Back on with the socks and the footwear once more,
And wait for Miss Tot racing out of the door.
Home once again, then a walk to the park,
But not for too long as it starts to get dark.
Time to head back and find something for tea,
Their dad will be on his way home and hungry!
I walk through the door and just nip for a wee,
When Daddy is home shouting “Hi, where’s my tea?”
“Sorry” I say with a sheepish half shrug.
“It isn’t quite ready… but give us a hug”.
He glances around, then politely he’ll say:
“OK but I’m starved – What did you do all day?”
The day’s endless tasks swim around in my head,
I have not sat down since I got out of bed!!
Wiping and cooking and washing galore,
Then cooking and washing and wiping once more.
Then right on his cue racing in comes a Tot,
Grubby and hungry and covered in snot.
I look at the floor of our once tidy home,
Which now looks a bit like an active war zone.
The kitchen’s a tip and the tea isn’t cooked.
The day’s nearly done and quite frankly I’m… shattered!
I search for the answer to capture it all…
“Nothing” I say.
“I’ve done nothing at all”.
Please tell me this isn’t just me?? Leave me a little comment below, I’d love to know if your days are the same!
